Google ranking factor – a term which haunts every website and blog owner is likely to undergo major changes once again. Making a note of these changes is of utmost importance so as to ensure a better ranking of your webpage in Google. While Google uses over 200 SEO ranking factors, these can be apparently classified under four broad categories which are as follows:-

Domains:-

While domains define what your web pages are, there are certain factors in this aspect which need to be kept in mind:

  • Domain History : Perform a background check of your domain. A domain may have been penalized in the past due to some reason. If you have registered for such a domain unknowingly, it can affect your site’s rankings drastically.
  • Registration Length : Rome wasn’t built in a day and so, aren’t domains. Domains which are registered for more than a year are considered to be more trustworthy than others and are responsible for Google ranking factors
  • Country TLD : For users trying to target a particular local market, having country specific domain names such as .uk, .au or .ca will help to rank your site higher in Google rankings.

Site factors:-

  • Trustable Domains: Building trust is crucial whether with people or with domains. It is found that domain extensions such as .com rank much higher in trust issues as compared to any other random domain such as .erg or .ndp. It is advisable to name your webpage with trustworthy domains.

  • Sitemap: The simplest way to inform Google what pages your site contains is through a site map. This is one of the major SEO ranking factors as Google will rank a site much higher whose total site has been indexed

On-page factors:-

This is one of the most important criteria taken into consideration by Google while ranking a website. If you want your webpage to receive a surge in SERP ratings, the following on-page optimization factors need to be noted down now:

  • Plagiarism: It is one of the biggest sins considered by Google. Having content that is similar to one or numerous web pages will not go unnoticed by Google’s Penguin and will be penalized heavily. Having authentic and un-copied content is one of the most important Google ranking factors that help to boost SERP ratings.
  • Keywords (Title and Meta Description): The title is what is used by Google to display the main heading of a search result. It indicates Google what to rank the page for. Including a keyword preferably in the beginning of a title provides boost as SEO ranking factors and enables a page to be graded higher than others. On the other hand, Meta Description refers to the small descriptive portion under the title. It provides a summary of the page content; so, including a keyword in this section helps in gaining user clicks which result in more traffic on your webpage.
  • Internal links: One should link one’s web pages correctly so to enable a user crawl through your entire website in a comfortable manner.
  • External links: One normally sends one’s viewer to another site, if one wants them to get a greater insight on a particular topic. Linking your site to higher ranked ones builds a trust factor, as Google sees your site as authentic and willing to provide information. Therefore, considered to be one of the vital Google ranking factors, it takes your website higher on the search list.

Off-page factors:-

Lastly, some off-page SEO ranking factors need to be taken into consideration as well.

  • Blog writings: Posting blogs with unique and authentic content at regular intervals inform Google that your site is active and regularly updated. New and authentic content also keeps your readers glued to your site increasing traffic in the process.
  • Backlinks: Acquiring backlinks is also among the important Google ranking factors. You should participate in Q & A forums on topics relevant to yours and post links to your webpage in the answer section. If viewers find your information useful, they will probably look at your link increasing the chances of potential viewers.
  • Guest Blogs: Considered to be tedious, it involves writing and posting a blog on some higher authority sites. Users who find your information useful will probably click on your link as well. It also involves following up with them to convert your potential viewers into loyal followers.
  • Social Media: Promoting your blog on social media is one of the most effective Google ranking factors for your page. Sites such as Facebook and Twitter have the largest number of active users at a certain point; therefore, these sites will give you much more exposure and help people to know your website or blog faster.

As Google ranking factors are an important tool to decide your page’s fate, this can only be achieved by following the above mentioned factors to their full credits. With Google rapidly upgrading its search factors quite often, it is advisable to keep upgrading your site as well in order to have a healthy boost along with these SEO ranking factors.
